Strap sometimes called as strop is an elongated flap or ribbon usually of fabric or leather. A strap may be used as an implement of physical punishment, known as strapping. Strapping can be used to secure not only containers but stand alone unitized loads and palletized loads as well. Straps are either in steel or plastic. Steel strapping is dimensionally under all extreme conditions and plastic strapping is more resilient. Strapping taping and gluing is the interconnected procedure. The main important step is strapping; after the material is strapped or taped it is then tied hard together with glue. It is used for load stabilization. Plastic strapping continues to stretch under tensioned loads and therefore should not be used where continuous loads are present. Its resilience keeps it tight on a package or loads that shrinks or settles. Steel strapping may be applied by manually operated tensioning tools which notch or crimp steels to retain the strapping. Plastic strapping can also be applied both manually and automatically in the same manner as steel strapping.
